How to change the Time Zone in AIX




File involve                  -                       /etc/environment
Reboot Required         -                       Yes (To take effect).

My server location is in EST (Easter Standard Time zone), but some reason it showing me the CST (Central Standard Time Zone). My oslevel is 61.

Check your /etc/environment file as well, before going to make changes.

# more /etc/environment
Let’s change the time zone

# smitty chtz_date 

By selecting the approciate time zone, it gives the following message


Command: OK            stdout: yes           stderr: no

Before command completion, additional instructions may appear below.

Any changes made to the time zone will take effect at the next system boot.

OR, you can use the command line to change the time zone as well.

#chtz EST5EDT,M3.2.0/2:00:00,M11.1.0/2:00:00

Let check again, it showing me the same TZ, because changes will take effect after reboot.

Any change, to time zone, check your /etc/environment file before going to reboot.

# more /etc/environment

TZ=EST5EDT,M3.2.0/2:00:00,M11.1.0/2:00:00
LANG=en_US

After reboot, Check again, Its done.
