What is IBM-AIX?
AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) launched in 1986 is the name given to a series of proprietary operating systems sold by IBM for several of its computer system platforms, based on UNIX System V with 4.3BSD compatible extensions.
AIX runs on 32-bit or 64-bit IBM POWER or PowerPC CPUs (depending on version) and can address up to 32 terabytes (TB) of random access memory.

What is required to run IBM-AIX?
To install & run IBM-AIX a well equipped IBM server setup is required. (e.g. Power5/6/7 Machine, HMC Server, Terminal Machines, V-LAN Switch, etc). You cannot install AIX on your personal machine as it needs a IBM hardware.
AIX is fully learn with hands on practice on LIVE server. AIX has less theory but need a conceptual understanding of environment.

What is course time & duration of IBM-AIX?
For any entry level person it takes 40 hours guidance under trainer and 40-50 hours hands-on practice on LIVE server.
With 2 to 3 hours of daily efforts one can be at good level after 3 months.

What is pre-requisite to learn IBM-AIX?
For new person it will be good if one have good understanding of any Linux version or UNIX or SOLARIS operating system exposure.

What are daily activities IBM-AIX Administrator performs?
Any Administrator commonly work as L1 Support, L2 Support, L3 Support depending on his experience. Based on his position he will be allocated with pre-defined privilages and they commonly perform following tasks:
   User administration (setup and maintaining account)
   Maintaining system
   Verify that peripherals are working properly
   Quickly arrange repair for hardware in occasion of hardware failure
   Monitor system performance
   Create file systems
   Install software

   Update system as soon as new version of OS and application software comes out
   Implement the policies for the use of the computer system and network
   Setup security policies for users. A sysadmin must have a strong grasp of computer security (e.g. firewalls and intrusion detection systems).

What is so special about the system administrator account?
The root account has full (unrestricted) access, so he/she can do anything with system.
For example, root can remove critical system files. In addition, there is no way you can recover file except using tape backup.

Do Sys Admin guys needs to write code or programming?
System administrators are not...Cookie cutting software engineers or developers.
It is not usually within your duties to design new application software. However, many tasks for system administration can be automated using perl or shell scripts.

Most important skill to a system administrator is Problem determination & implementing a RIGHT solution to problem in given time. This can some time lead into all sorts of constraints and stress.
