AIX NIM Disaster Recovery

These are the required steps to use NIM in your disaster recovery procedure.

Create Mksysb Image

• Check network and DNS requirements for your host / network
  • AIX NIM Network
  • Host needs A and PTR records
• Check storage NIM server
  • The NIM server needs at least the amount of space of the rootvg of the host
• Create nim client
  • AIX NIM Client
• Create the image
  • create_a_mksysb_image

Restore Mksysb Image

• Restore the image
  • restore_a_mksysb_image
  • AIX NIM Client Installation

Test Restore Mksysb Image

These are the steps for a test, so you create an entire new client for testing purposes. In this case we restore to a LPAR in an IVM. Before starting, determine a host name and IP address what can be used.

• Create required boot lun
  • NetApp Storage
• Detect lun inside VIOS/IVM
  • AIX VIOS
• Create LPAR
  • AIX IVM LPAR Creation
• Create DNS records
  • Create A and PTR records
• Create NIM Client

• Restore the image
